ATLANTA, GA, September 1, 2026 — InVeris announced today that it will add counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) engagement training to the Marine Corps’ Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer (ISMT) Tech Refresh. The new capability will let Marines use their individual weapons against simulated aerial threats on ISMT systems already fielded across the Corps.
For decades, the Marine Corps has partnered with InVeris to advance virtual firearms technology. From the legacy FATS® platform to today’s ISMT Program of Record, InVeris has expanded the system from rifle and pistol qualification to small arms, crew-served weapons, scenario-based decision-making and call-for-fire training. The C-UAS enhancement extends that trusted platform to one of the battlefield’s fastest-growing threats.
Small drones now give maneuver units little warning against surveillance and precision attack. InVeris will bring realistic aerial targets, individual-weapon engagements and after-action feedback to ISMT, allowing Marines to practice recognition, tracking, lead and engagement decisions through safe, repeatable training. Commanders can standardize repetitions across the force, sustain proficiency between live-fire events and prepare more Marines to contribute to layered defense.
InVeris will model the specialized ballistics of Drone Round’s 5.56x45mm L Variant, which separates into five projectiles to create a controlled dispersion pattern against small, fast-moving aerial targets. The virtual capability aligns training with ammunition that operates in standard Marine Corps 5.56mm weapons without weapon modifications.
“InVeris is turning a proven Marine Corps training platform toward a new battlefield reality,” said Clyde Tuggle, CEO of InVeris. “By building counter-UAS capability into the ISMT Tech Refresh, we can help Marines train where they already train, with the weapons they already carry, before they face the threat in the field.” By combining InVeris’ high-fidelity simulation, the Marine Corps’ fielded ISMT network and an accurate model of the L Variant’s multi-projectile ballistics, the Tech Refresh will deliver an enhanced counter-UAS training experience. Marines can rehearse target acquisition, tracking, shot placement and follow-up engagements—turning simulator repetitions into faster, more confident responses in the field.
Drone Round designs and manufactures purpose-built counter-UAS ammunition for standard-issue small arms platforms. Manufactured in Lewiston, Idaho, the company produces multi-projectile cartridges in 5.56x45mm NATO and 7.62x51mm NATO that give dismounted operators a last line of defense against small, unmanned aircraft without added equipment, specialized receivers, or dedicated platforms. Drone Round ammunition is combat-proven.
